It was when she was working as a diabetic teaching nurse at the Joslin, that she decided to attend optometry school. As a child, her church collected money every year for a school for blind children, and it made an indelible impression on her. She wanted her life work to be in prevention of blindness and optometry was a perfect fit. Dr. Bator's favorite place at the New England College of Optometry was the library. It is beautiful architecturally and was a great place to study. After graduation, Dr. Bator worked in optometry practices in Burlington, Billerica and Boston providing comprehensive eye exams and fitting contact lenses. During this time, she also began working as a vision examiner involved in various Retina Research Clinical Trials at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. During the 18 years that she spent working at Mass Eye and Ear, Dr. Bator developed expertise in prescribing eyeglass prescriptions for patients affected by macular degeneration and other macular conditions such as diabetic macular edema, and also after retinal detachment repair surgery, after trauma surgery and pre and post cataracts. Dr. Bator found that working with patients experiencing difficulty seeing and helping them improve their functional vision is very rewarding. Dr. Bator lives in Dracut with her husband.
